We always say how much we love being a part of our local community, but this past Sunday (7th of June), we truly got to experience the very best of it.

Our Valuations Director, Matt Hood, and Assistant Branch Manager from our Wellington office, Sue Hardeman, laced up their walking boots to join a fantastic crowd for the charity walk from Wellington to Shifnal. The goal? To raise much-needed funds for the Lingen Davies Cancer Support Sunflower Appeal.

It was a long old stint, covering 13 miles and taking six hours to complete, but honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

A Fantastic Community Effort

From the moment everyone gathered outside Wellington Leisure Centre at 8:30 in the morning, there was just a brilliant buzz in the air. It was so wonderful to see such a massive turnout of local people all walking together for the exact same reason.

The 13-mile trek took us along some brilliant routes through Telford, using large sections of the beautiful Hutchinson Way. We have to say a massive thank you to The Shifnal Rambler, Gunther Bedson. He took the lead and kept everyone's spirits up. Thanks to him, nobody got lost!

We were also incredibly lucky with the weather; while it wasn't blue skies and sunshine the entire day, the rain held off completely, which made for perfect walking conditions!

Over £5,000 Raised For Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal

We are absolutely delighted to share that the walk raised over £5,000!  Every single penny of that is going straight toward funding the brand-new chemotherapy centre at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.

If you aren't familiar with the Sunflower Appeal, it’s a massive project being run by the wonderful team at Lingen Davies. They have been doing vital, life-changing work in our region for 50 years, and this appeal is their biggest project yet. The goal is to raise £5 million to build a dedicated Cancer Centre right here in Telford by 2029.

Knowing that this money supports patients and families in Shropshire and Mid Wales made every single blister worth it. Cancer touches so many lives, and it felt genuinely special to play even a small part in helping out.

The Best Kind of Finish Line

After six hours of walking, crossing the finish line into Shifnal felt absolutely amazing. A great bunch of people, weary legs, and a lot of happy faces all made our way to the Park House in Shifnal for a well-deserved drink and a brilliant celebratory BBQ. It was the perfect way to wind down and chat with everyone who took part.

A massive well done to every single person who walked, volunteered, or cheered us on. And to everyone who donated or shared our posts, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We live in a truly special community, and we are just so pleased to have been a part of this day.

If you would still like to support the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal, you can donate directly through their website. If you happen to be passing our Wellington branch, do pop in to say hello to Sue and ask her how her feet are holding up after those 13 miles!
