Whether you’re a lifelong local or just visiting the county town, here is what’s on the radar for this week and the coming weekend.
When: Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th April
Where: Staffordshire County Showground
The "big one" is finally here. Widely regarded as the premier event of its kind in the world, the International Classic MotorCycle Show descends on the Showground this weekend.
Expect thousands of enthusiasts, hundreds of trade stands, and the legendary Bonhams Auction, where rare pieces of motorcycling history change hands for staggering sums. Even if you aren't a "petrolhead," the sheer scale of the event, featuring everything from pre-war British marques to 1970s Japanese classics, it's a sight to behold. Don't miss the Wall of Death for some heart-pounding vintage stunts!
One of the highlights of the Stafford show is the Live Start-Up Area in the GP Paddock, where visitors can experience classic motorcycles being fired into life, bringing the sound, smell and spectacle of historic machinery roaring back into action.
When: Now Open for the 2026 Season
Where: Shallowford (just outside Stafford)
For those who prefer a slower pace, today marks a special moment in the local calendar. The 16th century thatched cottage once owned by the legendary author of The Compleat Angler, Izaak Walton, has officially reopened its doors for the summer.
It’s a perfect slice of "Old England." You can wander through the period rooms, explore the tranquil gardens, and learn about Walton’s life as a Royalist and an angler. It’s one of Stafford's best-kept secrets for a peaceful Sunday afternoon.
Victoria Park: The park is currently at its peak spring beauty. Following the successful Spring Green Fair last weekend, the gardens are fully in bloom. It’s the ideal spot for a mid-week lunch break or a stroll to see the ducks.
ANZAC Day Service: On Sunday, April 26th, a "Drumhead" Remembrance Service will be held at the Cannock Chase War Cemetery (10:45 AM). Organized by the Stafford Branch of the Royal British Legion, it’s a moving tribute to the Australian and New Zealand forces, particularly given the historical link to the training camps on the Chase.
If you aren't at the Showground this week, the Stafford Gatehouse Theatre is buzzing.
Stafford’s Gotta Dance: Running from Monday 20th to Saturday 25th, this is a massive showcase of local talent. It’s always a high-energy week that brings a lot of families into the town center.
The Comedy Network: If you’re looking for a mid-week comedy treat, The Comedy Network is taking over the MET Studio this Tuesday (21st). Expect big names trying out new material, up-and-coming stars (catch ’em before they get tooo big) and a raft of well-known faces from the thriving comedy circuit.
While you’re in the town center, don’t forget to check out the Ancient High House. As the largest timber-framed town house in England, it’s a massive part of Stafford's 900-year history. They currently have some brilliant local exhibitions running that are well worth a look during a lunch break or a Saturday stroll.
Just a few miles up the road, our neighbours in Stone are celebrating St George’s Day early! On Saturday 25th, there’s a medieval re-enactment and parade in the High Street (starting around 12:30 PM). If you have kids who like knights and dragons, it’s a perfect companion trip to a weekend in Stafford.
It’s easy to see why so many people are looking to settle down in our historic county town. With its perfect blend of vibrant events, beautiful green spaces like Victoria Park, and deep-rooted heritage, Stafford offers a lifestyle that’s hard to beat.
If all this talk of weekend strolls and community spirit has you thinking about a move, we’d love to help you find your perfect spot.
